Kwan Chong Biography
Kwan Chong (L.Ac, Dipl.Ac) is a licensed acupuncturist serving Illinois since 1999, when acupuncture was first recognized in state law. A third generation acupucturist who apprenticed under distinguished grandmasters from Korea, China, and Japan, Kwan has updated numerous traditional herbal formulas to meet the changing demands of modern day life. Through years of research and clinical practice, he has developed customized treatments to restore optimum health based on each individual’s diet and physiology.
Kwan’s formal studies began in Environmental Engineering. His quest to understand the mind and spirit spurred him to pursue degrees as a Master of Divinity and Master of Theological Studies from Garrett Seminary at Northwestern University. He has completed PhD course work, CPEC and CMFT from the joint venture of Alexian Medical Center and Graduate Theological Foundation.
Building on his accumulated family traditions and inspirations, he has expanded his learning as an apprentice to Dr. Yongseop Oh, President of the Korean Acupuncture Association in Korea; Dr. Keychun Song, an Eastern Medicine doctor, Western pharmacist and 9th degree Kung-Fu Grandmaster; and Dr. Cheol Hong, who majored in both Eastern and Western Medicine.
A unique aspect of Kwan’s practice is his pursuit of the holistic well-being of his patients. As a Tae Kwon Do black belt and Yoga practitioner for over 35 years, Kwan is an advocate of preventative medicine and stresses the importance of keeping one’s mind, body, and emotional state in good balance. Kwan works not only to alleviate symptoms, but also to heal the root of the patient’s condition. This comprehensive healing philosophy is apparent in all of his acupuncture sessions, which take into account the entire patient’s person.
While rich in history, the practice of acupuncture continues to evolve. In order to stay abreast of the latest skills and techniques in Eastern medicine and contribute to interdisciplinary dialogue, Kwan regularly attends conferences and has given lectures to various groups in the U.S. and abroad. Kwan’s expertise cover between short(1/20 inch) and foot long needle acupuncture techniques. Always striving to be at the forefront of his practice, Kwan approaches his work with the discipline of a technician and the commitment of an artist, thanking God for the opportunity to bring holistic healing to all his patients.
